Taste Of The Town: Set Sail At The Atlantic Surf Club

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Life's a beach at the all new Atlantic Surf Club, which overlooks the ocean in Fort Lauderdale.

The laid back yet elegant eatery, which opened this summer, is a picture perfect postcard of the sand and surf. And that is exactly what the menu reflects in all of its offerings.

Chef Kevin Monti serves up everything from sesame crusted Ahi Tuna with Kimchee Fried Rice to delicious grilled paninis and seared burgers.

General manager Kevin Wolyniec explained what sets this sunny spot apart.

"For us, when people walk in here we want them to have the most positive experience," said Wolyniec. "From the greeting, from the hostess and the general manager, to the chef; we want to make sure when people come in, whether they are having an appetizer and a drink or a full entree it's to the nines."

The food is casually upscale.  When CBS4's Lisa Petrillo visited, she started off with a Panzanella Salad topped with goat cheese and homemade croutons.

"It's beachy bright and delicious. You can still be in a bathing suit and eat this salad which is a good thing," said Petrillo.

The nicely priced at $13, the decadent Lobster Macaroni and Cheese is eye candy and much more.

"We went through about 30 different pastas to figure out that orzo was best, it's lighter." said Monti.

Petrillo said the pasta is sure to melt in your mouth and you may want top it off with a refreshing Fig and Watermelon Salad with Carpaccio Prosciutto.  The salt from the prosciutto, the sweet from the watermelon and then the arugula with the drizzle brings excitement to the taste buds.

And the restaurant's super-sized superior burger is gigantic.

"It's actually has fresh lobster claws on top of the burger it's quite a mouthful," said Monti.

Let's just say it's for those with a hearty appetite.

"You don't want to put on a bathing suit after eating this", said Petrillo. "But it's really, really good."

And finally for dessert, homemade donuts with a Nutella fudge sauce and a vanilla milkshake.

The Atlantic Surf Club is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner and features music on the weekends. For more information visit www.atlanticsurfclub.com
