Hollywood Cab Driver Accused Of Hitting Man Lying In Road

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Hollywood cab driver is facing charges after he allegedly ran over a man lying on a road in Dania Beach.

On Wednesday, 58-year old Michael Brandt turned himself in at the Broward Sheriff's Office Main jail.

Sheriff's investigators said Bernard Williams, 62, was lying on the southbound lanes in the 1200 block of Federal Highway in the early morning hours of June 5 when he was struck. It is unclear why Williams was on the roadway, though toxicology reports show his blood alcohol content was .22%.

Williams was found around 4:20 a.m., lying in front of the Cyber Pizza Café by passing drivers who called 9-1-1. Williams was pronounced dead on the scene.

Brandt, a Yellow Cab driver, is facing charges of vehicular homicide for fleeing the scene of an accident involving injuries.
