Body Of Missing Diver Found In Keys Wreck

KEY LARGO (CBSMiami) – Dive crews who searched a ship wreck offshore of Key Largo have found the body believed to be that of a missing diver from Orlando.

Divers found the body just after 1:30 p.m. inside the wreck of the Spiegel Grove. They are currently in the process of recovering the body from inside the sunken vessel.

While detectives say they have not had the chance to perform an official identification of the body, it is believed to be that of 43 year old Joseph Dragojevich. Once the body is returned to shore, it will be turned over to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death. His equipment is also being recovered and will be examined for any information which may help detectives piece together what may have happened to him.

Dragojevich and a friend, 51-year old James Dorminy, were part of a group of divers on the charter dive boat Scuba-Do on Thursday.  During a dive on the Spiegel Grove, they decided to go inside the wreck without a guide.

As they were leaving the ship wreck Dorminy told search crews later that he lost sight of Dragojevich and the reel line they had attached to trace their way out of the ship went slack.

Dorminy said he was able to find the line tangled, but could not locate Dragojevich.

He also told searchers he looked for Dragojevich until he had to surface.

The Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife searched Thursday afternoon for Dragojevich, but could not find him.

The agencies resumed their search Friday in and around the wreck.

Dragojevich was a district chief with Lake County Emergency Medical Services.
