Good Samaritan Steps Up To Help Family With Stolen Parrot
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - While the Rondon family may still be missing their beloved pet parrot Papo, a good Samaritan stepped up Friday to hopefully ease some of the pain with a new macaw named Pepito.
Two months ago, a Macaw named Papo was stolen and the pet-napping was caught on camera.
Miami–Dade detectives are still searching for the thief but, in the meantime, a good samaritan named Clara Gomez stepped up and donated another blue and yellow Macaw to the the Rondon family named Pepito.
"He was a family pet. He was going to be taken to Houston but since we saw the story we decided he should stay here," said Gomez.
Pepito's new owner, Roberto Rondon said, "Yeah, the kids are gong to be happy because they're going to have another pet."
MDPD Detective Rosa Durand-Alcazar said this is one of four stolen exotic pet-napping cases she's working. She says they are worth about $800 to $2000 and owners are likely being scoped out in pet stores.
"I have a feeling they are watching people at the pet store and following them home," the detective said.
It's unclear how the thief who hit the Rondon's house knew about Papo the parrot but as detectives continue to search for Papo, Pepito is sure to bring some smiles and love the faces of the Rondon family.
