BSO: Man In Pompano Beach Dies At Hands Of His Brother

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) - Investigators said the violence unfolded quickly and without mercy inside the top floor corner apartment Tuesday afternoon in Pompano Beach. An argument between brothers, possibly over a car friends said, that left one brother dead and the other in jail.

Dieuseul Cemerant, 23, is accused of shooting and then fatally stabbing his younger brother Saint-Ange Cemerant, 21, in their home, according to Broward Sheriff's Office.

Reports came in to authorities of a possible shooting in Pompano Beach at 3:55 p.m. When BSO arrived, they discovered the 21-year-old victim had been attacked and seriously injured by his brother.

The boys' mother arrived to her apartment Tuesday to possibly the worst news a mother could hear.

"That's very devastating…A mother's nightmare," said friend Jocelyne Colas.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said Saint-Ange died on the scene. A witness in the apartment saw the violence unfold.

BSO said they arrested Dieuseul a few blocks away.

Investigators believe the brothers had an argument that led to the violence and they said that Dieuseul came home Tuesday ready for a fight.

"His brother came in, his brother was agitated, confronted our victim as if he were looking for an argument," said Gina Carter with BSO.

Friends told CBS4's Carey Codd the brothers were likely arguing over Saint-Ange's car.

"They never got along…there was always jealousy going on. They never got along," said Jocelyne Colas.

The boys' mother grieved largely out of public view, banging her hands on the ground and then collapsing.

His father said he loved his sons and was trying to make sense of a violent encounter that has shaken his family.

Neighbors and friends say Saint-Ange was a young man with dreams and a strong work ethic who was putting himself through college.

The mother of Saint-Ange's girlfriend said the young man kept her daughter out of trouble and focused on school and church.

People who know the family say that Saint-Ange and his mother were extremely close.

As crime scene investigators swarmed this area tonight looking for evidence…it was ironic that a friend of the victim told me that Saint-Ange hoped to someday be a crime scene investigator.

There is no word on where the gun came from used in the killing.

BSO says charges are pending, but it's likely Dieuseul Cemerant will be charged with first-degree murder.
