Ex-Dolphins Player's Home In Southwest Ranches Burglarized

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The home of an ex-Dolphins player in Southwest Ranches was burglarized Saturday, leading to the arrest of four people.

Christopher Diaz, 20, and Michael Campblin, 19, along with two juveniles, were arrested Saturday after authorities responded to an alarm sounding at the home of former Dolphins player James McKnight in Southwest Ranches.

Deputies checked the home but, according to Broward Sheriff's office, it appeared to be secured so they left the home.

Less than an hour later, Deputy Paul Sada returned to the area and noticed a red Dodge Charger leaving the area. The Charger, matching the description of a car that had been linked to a previous burglary in the area, was stopped.

The passengers in the Charger, an adult and a juvenile, couldn't explain why they were in the area and eventually admitted, according to BSO, that they were in the area acting as lookouts for two accomplices who were breaking into a house.

In a joined effort from neighboring districts, according to BSO, authorities set up a perimeter which led to the discovery of a bedroom window of the house where the alarm had sounded was smashed.

Nobody was home at the time, according to BSO.

BSO's helicopter searched the area for burglars while K-9 deputies tracked the ground. The K-9s eventually found the two criminals hiding in a fenced yard.

The two suspects, according to authorities, initially ignored deputies' orders to show their hands and surrender. A K-9 then bit one suspect on the arm but was not seriously injured and both suspects were taken into custody.

Deputies say they then found a loaded 9 mm handgun under the driver's seat of the Charger driven by the accomplices. They also said they found gloves, a screwdriver, a small saw and a flashlight in the car.

Diaz and Campblin were charged with armed burglary and resisting arrest without violence. They were transported to BSO's Main Jail.

The two juveniles were taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center and then to the Juvenile Detention Center.
