FBI Releases Photos Of Miami Gardens ATM Explosive Subjects

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The FBI has released surveillance pictures and video of several people who they believe placed an explosive device at a Miami Gardens ATM and tried to set it off with gunfire so they could steal the cash inside.

The crime happened just before 4 a.m. Thursday.  Police were called to a shopping plaza near NW 199th Street and NW 27th Avenue in Miami Gardens after getting calls about gunfire.

According to the FBI, a crowbar was used to pry open a panel of an ATM where a hand grenade-type device was placed inside.

Several gunshots were fired at the grenade, which failed to detonate, said police.  The bomb squad was called in to detonate the device.

"Wow, you never know what's going to happen," said Emmanuel Mompremier who frequently uses the ATM.  He saw the police activity on the way to work Thursday morning, but didn't know what was going on.  "I live close to the area. That's my bank. That's where I usually come but unfortunately I didn't know what was going on at that time," he said.

It is believed that at least four subjects were involved in the burglary.

The grenade was later determined to be a dud by bomb technicians.

Anyone who recognizes the people in the pictures or video are urged to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS or the FBI at (305) 944-9101.
