Cab Driver Killed In Collision With Pickup Truck

DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) — The intersection of Sheridan Street and Federal Highway in Dania Beach was reopened after a deadly accident shutdown the area down early Monday morning.

According to BSO, a red pickup truck and a taxi collided at the intersection around 3:30 a.m. which killed the driver of the Friendly cab.  The Broward County Sheriff's Office said the driver of the cab was Joseph Frantz, 53.

When the collision happened, the taxi was heading southbound on Federal Highway and the pickup truck was heading west on Sheridan Street, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The impact was so powerful, both cars ended up in the parking lot of a nearby gas station, which luckily was closed.

"You can tell it was a very hard impact. The driver, a male was pronounced dead at the hospital," said BSO's Kayla Concepcion.

A man and woman in the pickup truck were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood along with a man and woman who were in the taxi cab.

No identifications have yet been released and their conditions are not known.

Shortly before 7 a.m., the crash vehicles were towed from the scene and officials reopened the intersection.

Two additional occupants were inside the taxi, Jessica Johnson, 20, and Jesse Johnson, 22.   Two people were in the pick-up truck, Sheena Rogers, 28, and Emmanuel Bruce, 37.   All of the surviving occupants were listed in serious condition.
