MDPD Bomb Squad Investigates Suspicious Item At Apartment Complex

MIAMI (CBSMiami) –Dozens of apartments were evacuated Thursday night when a suspicious item was discovered near a dumpster at the Four Quarters Habitat apartment complex in Southwest Miami-Dade.

Police and fire rescue units responded to the scene along SW 107 Avenue between Kendall Drive and Sunset shortly before 9 p.m.

Investigators said the located a PVC-type pipe that raised their suspicions to the point of calling the Bomb Squad out to mitigate the threat.

"The came banging on our door," Alexandria Goff said. She sat with her invent daughter at the playground waiting for the all-clear.

"Police asked me when was the last time she ate because it could be hours," Goff said.

Many residents stood with their dogs on leashes waiting to be allowed back into their homes.

"I'm worried," a woman named Anthie said. "We don't know what's going on... this is usually a quiet place."

Some units lost power during the investigation.
