Poll: Crist Dominating Scott In Hypothetical Race

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The 2014 gubernatorial election is still more than a year away, but according to the latest Public Policy Polling numbers, Governor Rick Scott shouldn't get too comfortable in the governor's mansion.

According to the PPP poll, if former Governor Charlie Crist runs as a Democrat, as expected, he would crush Scott in a general election. The PPP poll found Crist leading Scott by a 50-38 point margin in a recent survey.

Crist's lead comes from a large lead with independents (57-33 percent) and because he wins over 21 percent of the Republican vote while losing just 17 percent of the Democratic vote to Scott.

Still, PPP said the numbers are more of a reflection of voter dissatisfaction with Scott rather than a positive for Crist. The poll found Crist had a nearly even 43-42 percent favorable/unfavorable rating. Scott on the other hand had a 33-55 percent favorable/unfavorable rating.

According to PPP, only five governors that they've polled on have a worse net approval rating than Scott and his numbers have not improved in the last six months.
