Miramar Mom Reportedly Burned Son With Iron

MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) – A Miramar mother was arrested after she allegedly lost her temper with her son and burned him with a hot iron.

The incident came to light when 30-year Glendese William's 11-year old son went to school Wednesday morning at Pines Middle School and asked a school worker for a band-aid for his shoulder.

When he pulled back his sleeve, he revealed a serious burn mark.

When asked how the injury occurred he reportedly said he was getting ready for school, ironing his shirt, when he got into an argument with his mother. He said during the argument, she grabbed the iron which was still hot, and pressed it into his right arm. He also said about a week before she disciplined him with a belt which left welts on his lower left leg.

When questioned about the incident later that evening, Williams was "very evasive, stating that she slapped him, but did nothing else," according to her arrest form.

The officer noted that she did not offer any information on how her son was burned or why she didn't take him to get medical attention.

Doctors at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital said the boy suffered first and second degree burns.

Williams was arrested and charged with abuse with great bodily harm.
