BSO: Man Burns Ex-Fiancée's Business, But Died From Burns
HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiaimi) – The State Fire Marshal's Office and Broward County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man who allegedly set fire to his ex-fiancée's business and then became a victim of the fire.
Luis Evans, 19, died Monday after suffering severe burns, said BSO officials.
According to the investigators, a driver reported seeing smoke coming from a business in the 5700 block of Hallandale Beach Boulevard Sunday night around 7 p.m.
When the driver went back to see what was happening, deputies said the person saw a black Pontiac leaving the scene.
Firefighters put out the fire and the State Fire Marshal Arson Detection Dog, Ember, discovered accelerants in the business.
BSO said, a short time later, the business owner, Jennifer Tanner, 26, received a call to tell her Luis Evans, her ex-fiancé came to a friend's home with severe burns.
The black Pontiac was located, according to BSO.
Investigators are still looking into the case.
