Manatee Bay Elementary Open Monday After Illness Sickened Students

WESTON (CBSMiami) – Cleaning crews worked over the weekend at Manatee Bay Elementary to sanitize the school and classes will go on as scheduled Monday morning.

Broward County Schools district staff reports the school has been thoroughly sanitized.

The district told CBS4 News more than 300 kids were out of school with some kind of bug with flu-like symptoms.

As a proactive precautionary measure, the Department of Health in Broward is advising that the water fountains in the school not be utilized Monday because students may accidentally put unclean hands and then mouths on the faucets.

Students may also bring a personalized bottle of water.

The Health Department continues to advise parents/guardians to take the following precautionary measures:

- Please encourage your children to wash their hands frequently with soap and water especially after using the bathroom and prior to eating.

- If your child has "stomach flu-like" symptoms, including upset stomach, vomiting, fever and/or diarrhea, please keep your child home from school.

- Should symptoms persist, have your child examined by his/her health care provider.

- It is important that your child does not return to school until symptom free.
