MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The depth of the Miami Marlins’ woes in 2013 have been well documented, but the Fish are about to join another infamous club when the season ends.
The Marlins have won a total of 56 games this season after Wednesday night’s victory. That leaves the Fish with 10 games left in the season or a maximum of 10 victories possible if Miami swept its remaining games which is highly unlikely.
On the other hand, the Miami Heat won 66 games last season and an NBA championship. That means, without the Marlins winning out their remaining schedule; the Heat will win more games in a season than the Marlins, despite playing half as many games.
According to the Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds, the last time a city’s Major League Baseball team failed to win more games than its NBA team in the same year was in 2009 when the Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, won 66 games and the Indians won just 65 games.
Prior to that, Reynolds Tweeted, the last teams to pull off a similar feat were the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Tigers in 2003 when the Pistons won 50 games and the Tigers won just 43.
As a side, note, the 2009 Cavaliers that won more than the Indians was LeBron’s next to last year in Cleveland. The LeBron-led Miami Heat in 2013 won an NBA title and more games than the Marlins, and LeBron can leave after next season.
