2 Arrested After Discovery Of Dogs Living In Filth

MIAMI (CBS4) – Miami-Dade Police have arrested two people in connection with a home that was discovered to have more than 80 dogs living in squalid conditions last week.

Miami-Dade Police arrested Maria Y. Crespo and her mother, Teresa Horta-Barrial, on over 100 charges of misdemeanor animal cruelty for the situation discovered last week.

An anonymous report of animal cruelty that was filed through the county's 311 Answer Center tipped off investigators to the horrific conditions the dogs were living in.

Once investigators got to the home, they found dogs that did not have suitable living conditions with puppies and dogs crammed together in small cages, and standing in one to two inches of waste like it was mud.

"They are not without food, not without love, because all of them had love.  Even though there were a lot of dogs all of them had love", Maria Crespo told CBS4 last week. "Some of them were rescued from the street. I picked them up and because I don't like seeing dogs in the street."

Animal rescuers said the home had no electricity or water and that one puppy's coat was stained from sitting in so much urine and feces for a most of his life.

Dozens of dogs and a few other animals, which were removed from a Southwest MIami-Dade home in filthy living conditions are continuing to improve and need new, loving, homes.

Miami-Dade Animal Services removed a total of 89 dogs from the home.

Animal Services is providing veterinary care to the dogs and other animals found at the home. If you'd like to adopt one of the animals, Miami-Dade Animal Services has waived all adoption fees for the month of September.

The rescued dogs are available for adoption in West Palm Beach at the Humane Society of Greater Miami and Miami-Dade Animal Services.
