Fins Hope Luck Changes Against Colts

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – When Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck looks across the line of scrimmage and sees Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan ready to come after him, he may get a feeling of déjà vu.

Jordan was part of an Oregon Ducks team that terrorized Luck and Stanford both times the schools matched up in the regular season. Jordan likes to remind people that he's never lost to Andrew Luck and this weekend he doesn't plan to start.

Luck, when asked Wednesday about the games with Oregon, said he'd like to forget them, but indicated that Jordan was "fast, athletic, eats up space, and physical."

Jordan will be part of a defensive line rotation that may be the best in the National Football League in 2013. The Dolphins defensive line includes All-Pro Cameron Wake, Jordan, first-round pick Jared Odrick, third-round pick Olivier Vernon, Randy Starks, Paul Soliai, and Derrick Shelby.

With such a versatile lineup, Dolphins defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle has started experimenting with different looks including what he called the speed package. The defensive package includes Wake, Jordan, and Vernon on the field at the same time trying to create havoc for the quarterback with a relentless pass rush.

The Fins had no problem getting to Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden last week, but Weeden isn't even in Luck's zip code when it comes to quarterbacking. Jordan told CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald that the key will be to get Luck on the ground and make plays when the ball is in the air.

The last time the Dolphins saw Luck, he torched the Fins for 433 yards while leading the team to a last-second victory. The Dolphins still remember that bitter taste and hope that with a dominant defense, they can exact some small modicum of revenge on Sunday.

The Dolphins and Colts kickoff at 1 p.m. Sunday and can be seen exclusively on CBS4.
