Grieving Family Looking For Answers In North Miami Beach Man's Death

NORTH MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) - The family of a man shot to death inside his car in North Miami Beach last Friday made a public plea for information Wednesday.

According to investigators, Tavares Kelly, 31, was found dead September 6 at the intersection of NE 5 Avenue and 175 St.

Police do not have any suspects in the case.

"This is so surprising," said the victim's mother, Marilisa Kelly. "At little thing you know will help. Any little thing. I'm pleading with you. I'm even pleading with the person who did it."

Marilisa Kelly choked back tears during the press conference surrounded by loved ones.

"Don't let him die in vain," said the victim's aunt, Mariletta Long. "We need to find out who did this. Nobody deserves to die like this."

Police said Kelly was found dead inside his white 2013 Dodge Avenger. They ask anyone who saw the car Friday to call police.

"It's virtually impossible not to see something. Somebody saw something out there," Director of Police Services Tom Carney said."They should, just from a moral standpoint, come forward."

Wanda Thompson said she worked with Kelly. She said he drove trucks for the County.

"He never bothered anybody," Thompson said.

Kelly's mother said she doesn't know anyone who would want to hurt her son.

She said he lived for his two children.

"Somebody needs to step up. He was loved," Kelly's friend, Peter Pender said. "A lot of people loved him and he loved a lot of people in return."

Anyone with information should contact Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
