Bill Would Strengthen Motor-Voter Law
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) -- A South Florida senator wants to more closely tie getting driver licenses with registering to vote.
Sen. Jeff Clemens, D-Lake Worth, filed a proposal (SB 150) last week that would require the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to automatically register people to vote when they apply for driver licenses or need renewals.
Currently, the department must "provide the opportunity" to register to vote.
The bill, which is filed for the 2014 legislative session, also includes provisions for people to decline to register to vote.
