Tunnel To Towers 5K Helps War Heroes & 9/11 First Responders

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The third annual Tunnel to Towers Fort Lauderdale 5K Run and Walk too place early Saturday morning along East Las Olas Boulevard.

The run and walk honors first responders during 9/11 and U.S. Military personnel who were severely injured during their service in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Many South Florida fire rescue departments participated in the run and walk.

Among those there Saturday morning, Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue, Hollywood Fire Rescue, City of Miami Fire Rescue and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

The funds raised from the run and walk will go to building Smart Homes that utilize interactive technology enabling military heroes who have been wounded to lead independent lives.
