Singer Gloria Estefan Discusses New Album

BRICKELL KEY (CBSMiami) - When Miami's famed songstress Gloria Estefan calls for a press conference, the media certainly shows up, and Tuesday morning's gathering at The Mandarin Oriental on Brickell Key proved just that.

Estefan sat down to talk about her 27th album titled "The Standards" which are great tunes from the American Songbook.

"I am so happy to be able to release this,"  Estefan said, adding, "The songs are so important and cathartic and  I wanted  to give this album a  great mood and vibe, especially just before the holidays."

For four days, Gloria and the band recorded 16 live songs.  Gloria's husband Emilio Estefan co-produced the album with her and Grammy-winning producer Shelly Berg.

All were mindful of her worldwide fan base, so some of the album's tracks were recorded in Spanish , French, Portuguese and  Italian.

Before recording, Gloria and Emilio, who recently celebrated 35 years of marriage, downloaded many of the classics performed by such greats as Sinatra, Fred Astaire, Dinah Washington; all songs Gloria grew up listening to.

"All of my ballads such as 'Anything for You,' 'Don't Want to Lose  You,' 'Words Get in the Way,'  these songs are where it all began for me, it call came from this genre so it's so nice to come full circle," said Gloria.

At the end of the press conference, Gloria received a giant album plaque commemorating 100 million records sold.

"The Standards" will be released Sept 10. 2013.
