Library Workers Protest Possible Miami-Dade Layoffs

MIAMI (CBS4) – Nearly a dozen Miami-Dade library workers protested looming layoffs Sunday.

They gathered in front of the Kendall library with signs calling attention to proposed budget cuts.

The cuts could leave nearly 200 library workers out of a job and four libraries closed.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez proposed the cuts for the 2013-14 county budget.

Libraries facing the chopping block include the system's civic center kiosk and three branch libraries in Country Walk, Sunset, and Tamiami.

The list is not finalized as of yet. Two public hearings on the budget will take place in September.
