Police Investigate Deadly Shooting In Opa-locka

OPA-LOCKA (CBSMiami) – One person is dead, a second hospitalized after an early morning shooting in Opa-locka.

It happened around 1 a.m. in front of a residence at NW 22nd Court and Burlington Street.

Witnesses told police there were two people sitting in a car outside the home when gunfire erupted.

"Bullets was just flyin' and I'm telling you it was just back to back to back rapid fire," said woman who lives nearby. "I don't know what it was about but whoever was in that car, they intended to kill them. I believe that. They intended to kill them and they came with that intention and unfortunately that's what happens sometimes."

One of the people died in the car. The other tried to escape. He made it about half a mile before collapsing in front of a home. The man was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center, no word on his condition.

Police have not released the name of the person who died or what may have led to the shooting.
