Marlins Fall Short Against Rockies
MIAMI (AP) - Nolan Arenado hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the sixth and the Colorado Rockies held on for a 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins on Sunday.
Jorge De La Rosa (14-6) won his fourth consecutive decision, allowing three runs in five innings. De La Rosa improved to 7-0 with a 1.92 ERA in day games.
Five relievers then combined for four hitless innings, with Rex Brothers working the ninth for his 13th save in 14 chances. With runners on first and second, Brothers got Ed Lucas to ground into a fielder's choice to end the game.
Miami's Justin Ruggiano homered and drove in two runs. Jacob Turner (3-5) allowed four runs - three earned - in 5 2-3 innings.
Turner hurt himself with a wild pitch in the second inning and second baseman Donovan Solano had a costly throwing error. Michael Cuddyer moved to third on the wild pitch before Ryan Wheeler singled him home. Arenado scored on Solano's error, and Jonathan Herrera's sacrifice fly gave the Rockies a 3-0 lead.
Ruggiano had a two-out solo shot in the bottom half, and then had a tying RBI single in the fourth. It was Ruggiano's 15th homer.
The Rockies went ahead for good with a two-out rally in the sixth. Cuddyer singled and scored on Arenado's double to left.
Adam Ottavino, Josh Outman, Wilton Lopez, and Matt Belisle combined for three innings before turning it over to Brothers for the ninth. Brothers walked Solano and Logan Morrison, but managed to wiggle out of the jam.
