MIAMI (CBS4) – Changes to the bag policy at Sun Life Stadium caught some people off guard Saturday as they entered the gates.

Most fans came to Sun Life Stadium ready dressed in Dolphins gear and carrying their belongings in clear plastic.

“I’m a season ticket holder so they let us know ahead of time the policy and they also sent us a bag,” said Fernando Romero.

Romero said he doesn’t mind the new policy of clear plastic bags at all.

“I’m just here for the game if it’s no bag it’s no bag,” he added.

However, Romero’s wife wasn’t too thrilled when she first heard clear bags were a requirement from now on at the stadium.

“You know us, we want to carry bags and everything in it but, oh well,” Esther Romero said to CBS4’s Maggie Newland, Saturday.

A few people didn’t know about the policy, but for fans who forgot clear plastic bags, they were made available for free in the parking lots or for $5 at the team store.

Most fans CBS4 News spoke to said the policy’s no more than a minor inconvenience.

“I’ve carried a clear backpack the whole time we’ve been season ticket holders.  I’m just upset the new bag is smaller than my clear backpack because my backpack is bigger but, we’ll do what we have to do it’s a safety concern that’s the important part,” said Tammy Woolley.

Despite the size, some fans like Vanessa Montoya said they preferred the new bag.

“I like it, it’s very safe and it’s very convenient and it’s good to carry everything you have, like me for example, I come with a huge diaper bag it’s a headache to carry all.

Montoya even thought the bag worked well as a diaper bag.

“Yes, yes it does it’s awesome you put your baby food in the bottom you put your diapers and everything you need in the top.”

“Once you have a kid, you can put anything in a bag,” Montoya laughed.

In case you need to pack your bag, the rule states:

  • Fans may carry only one bag this is clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and does not exceed 12″x6″x12″ or a one-gallon plastic freezer bag.
  • Fans may also bring in a small clutch bag or purse approximately the size of a hand with or without a handle or strap.
  • An exception is made for medically necessary items after inspection at Gate E.
  • Each member of a family, including children, will be able to carry an approved clear bag and a clutch purse.

The Dolphins and the NFL also said that season ticket holders will be given an NFL approved bags and non-season ticket holders wanting branded bags approved by the league can buy them at the team store at Sun Life Stadium.

The policy will be in effect for all NFL games this season.
