HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) – Hollywood police are investigating a shooting where the victim, a woman, was found lying on a sidewalk.
The woman was found Friday morning in the 5200 block of Sheridan Street.
The shooting happened on the sidewalk right in front of the Sheridan Technical Center and across the street from the popular Sheridan Plaza in the Emerald Hills neighborhood of Hollywood.
“I was in class and all we heard was five shots or something like that,” said student Fernando Mendoza.
Hollywood police said the woman was hit in the lower extremities.
“It was right outside our classroom so that makes it kind of really scary,” said Robert Broun adding, “I heard the popping noises really close. I kind of in my head thought it was gunshots but I didn’t want to say anything.”
Witnesses told investigators the shooter was a man in a silver two-door Audi and that he took off east bound on Sheridan Street.
A short time later, BSO recovered a car intentionally driven into a lake right next to Boyd Anderson High School. Hollywood police believe it’s that same Audi. ”He crashed into the fence, like first, but it didn’t go down then he reversed and crashed back into it,” explained 9th grader Micaiah Parish. He and his class saw as the car drove into the lake. “The car went in the lake, then he just got out like nothing happened,” he said.
“We have to see if we can find somebody who actually saw what happened prior to those shots, if anything. And really, hopefully the victim will be able to tell us herself,” said Sgt. Pablo Vanegas of the Hollywood Police Department.
Police do not have a lot of information on the victim yet, but they are looking into reports that she may have been a student at Sheridan Technical. Meanwhile, students at the school are concerned.
“It’s crazy, because it could have…what if it went thru the window or something?” said Alekander Bastrykin.
The driver is still on the run.
