Miami Team Raced To Victory In Wacky Keys Regatta

KEY LARGO (CBSMiami/FKNB) -- Buoyed by a cheering crowd, an amateur team of boat builders from Miami finished with the fast time at the offbeat Anything That Floats regatta in the Florida Keys

Team Likely Story used a schematic found online that helped keep their swift watercraft of corrugated plastic, plywood, zip ties and duct tape together.

Teammates from South Florida as well as Tennessee, Montana, Texas, Washington State and even Scotland, constructed watercraft using unsinkable household items such as bubble wrap, plastic coffee jugs, water bottles and even casket vault molds.

Awarded best two-person boat, the "Barnacle Babes and the Big Blue Whale" garnered crowd-pleaser kudos for their converted 50-gallon recycled blue drum barrel boat.

Other prizes included most creative vessel, best use of recyclable materials and a hard-luck award to the boat that sank before reaching the finish line.

The regatta's half-mile course was positioned behind Sundowners Restaurant in Key Largo.
