Florida Lotto Hits Highest Jackpot In Over A Decade

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – If you woke up Saturday morning feeling like today might be your day, you may want to consider purchasing a Florida lotto ticket as the jackpot has swelled to the highest level in 12 years.

The jackpot for Saturday's drawing, according to lottery officials, has soared to a whopping $54 million. The sum is the highest total since September 2001.

The jackpot's hefty sum is due to the fact that no player has matched all six numbers since April 24th's drawing.

Florida Lotto is the state's flagship lottery game that has been around since 1988. But it has been eclipsed in popularity in recent years by multi-state games such as Powerball.

Jackpot prizes are paid in 30 annual installments or as a one-time, lump-sum payment. Jackpot winners have 60 days after the draw to select the lump-sum payment option. Winners must claim their prizes within 180 days from the applicable drawing.
