Florida Driver Charged With Hitting Officer

CLEARWATER (CBSMiami/AP) – A 24-year-old Florida woman, after authorities say she fled the scene of a crash and intentionally struck one of the officers pursuing her, is facing several charges.

Among the charges against Nicole Syphers is aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.

On Friday, Largo Police were looking for a silver Saturn involved in a hit and run in Clearwater. They say the car was also involved in another hit and run at a gas station parking lot.

When police tried to pull Syphers over she stopped, but, according to authorities, she quickly put the vehicle in reverse and struck on officer and narrowly missed hitting another.

Both officers fired at Syphers' car. She was caught after she jumped out of the car and tried to flee.

Officer Darcy Hunt was treated for minor injuries.

Charges against Syphers include aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
