Tow Truck Driver Escapes Injury After Shooting In Lauderhill

LAUDERHILL (CBS4) -A tow truck driver is lucky to be alive after a resident in the Lauderhill apartment complex where she was performing a tow came out shooting.

Lauderhill Police were called to the scene on the 2600 Northwest 52 Avenue just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.
A tow truck driver on the scene told police that she was towing an unregistered vehicle from the property when several men came out of an apartment and confronted the driver. Police say one of the men had a gun and fired several shots into the air. After firing the shots, police say all the men, including the gunman, ran back into the home.

"He came out of his unit and he say, "Drop the f-ing car," Blanche Duncan, the tow truck driver, told CBS 4's Carey Codd. "And all of a sudden it went boom! A loud gunshot towards our way."

Police say the gunman did not point the gun directly at the tow truck driver and no shell casings were found. Lauderhill Police say they found the apartment where the reported shooter fled but investigators didn't find a gun or anyone who matched the description of the gunman…Police speculate that the gunman used a type of weapon that did not produce casings.

No one has been arrested and detectives are trying to locate the gunman.

The shooting unsettled Blanche Duncan.

"You're only doing your job and no one deserves to get killed over a raggedy car," she said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lauderhill Police Department @ 954-497-4700 or Crime Stoppers @ 954-493-TIPS.

Violence against tow truck drivers seems to be on the rise in South Florida.

Last week, a tow truck driver was shot and killed as he attempted to remove a car from a Lauderdale Lakes apartment complex. The tow truck company said the building hired them to remove unauthorized vehicles from the property.
