Shooting Prompts Lockdown At Opa-locka School

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An Opa-locka elementary was placed on a precautionary lockdown after a shooting near the school.

Police cars lined the street at Robert Ingram Elementary, at 600 Ahmad Street, after a shooting blocks away at 911 Baub Street. Police said a person was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery.

The injured person was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

After the shooting, the gunman ran off in the direction of the school. Police did not know if they entered the school grounds or not, so as a precaution they locked it down.

Nearly 200 kids attending a summer camp at the school were kept inside the building as Opa-locka and Miami-Dade police searched the school and grounds thoroughly.   The gunman was not found in the school, but the lockdown was kept in place as police searched the surrounding area.

Police have not released the name of the injured person or their condition.
