Keys Man Wanted For Credit Card Fraud Busted On His Way To Russia

KEY WEST (CBSMiami) – A man wanted on multiple counts of fraud and illegal use of credit cards was picked before he could hop a flight to Russia.

An outstanding warrant for 41-year old Alex Bogomolny's arrest has bond listed in the amount of $1.5 million, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday the sheriff's office received word that Bogomolny had flown out of Key West to New York but had missed his connecting flight to Russia and he was waiting in the John F. Kennedy airport for another flight.

The sheriff's office enlisted the help of Immigration and Customs Enforcement whose agents found Bogomolny at the airport and took him into custody.

Bogomolny will be returned to Monroe County to face charges.

Bogomolny first appeared on the sheriff's office radar when he reportedly stole a bike in Big Pine Key. During questioning, deputies discovered that Bogomolny had a number of credit cards with different names on them. Originally, he told the officers that he didn't know where they came from. He then changed his story and said they came from his business partner.

The bike's owner decided not to press charges, but the sheriff's office did seize the two dozen cards with other people's names on them.  It was during an investigation into where the cards came from that investigators found that he was opening up credit accounts under other people's names, according to the sheriff's office.

A warrant was then issued for his arrest on trafficking in counterfeit credit cards and identity theft.
