BSO: Teen Murdered In Lauderdale Lakes

LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBS4) - The Broward Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out who killed a teenager inside his family's home in Lauderdale Lakes.

BSO says Stephen Rutty, 18, was murdered inside his home in the 3700 block of NW 27 Street on Monday. Investigators say Ruttys' mother was the last person to see him alive when she left for work in the morning. BSO says Rutty's stepfather found the body around 4 pm and called 911.

"Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are investigating this as a homicide," said Spokesperson Mike Jachles. "Right now there's not much information we can release."

The teen's family had difficulty dealing with the news. The mother of 18 year old Steven Rutty was placed on a stretcher, overcome by grief over the murder of her son. The young man's grandmother broke down and needed to be helped to the loving arms of her family. The teen's father and family members watched the investigation play out for hours and say they learned little.

"We don't know nothing," said Rutty's aunt, Daphne, declining to provide her last name.

BSO focused on the house where Rutty was found and also on the house next door but they would not say what interested them next door. Detectives are not revealing how Rutty was killed or any details about what might have led to the murder.

BSO is asking for the public's help. If anyone knows anything about the murder of this young man is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 954 493 TIPS.
