Dade Commissioner Hosts Back-To-School Event

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – With the upcoming school year just around the corner, it can be hectic trying to gather supplies.  So Miami-Dade Commissioner Jean Monestime has decided to give parents in his district a helping hand with a free Back-To-School event on Sunday.

Reading Explorers and Neighbors and Neighbors Association, Inc. have teamed up with Monestime to help prepare students who live in District 2 with the Back-to-School Book Bag Giveaway.

The event will be at Oak Grove Park, 690 N.E. 159th Street from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. where families are welcome to enjoy free food, music and a bounce house.

Students who are accompanied by a parent will also be able to receive a free book bag. Parents must have identification that shows that they live in a District 2 area, which include portions of the City of Miami, North Miami, North Miami Beach, Opa-locka, City of Hialeah and unincorporated areas of Liberty City, Biscayne Gardens and North Dade Central.

For more information, please contact Commissioner Monestime's office at 305-694-2779.
