Coral Gables Elderly Couple: Daughter Held Us Hostage

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – A SWAT team took a woman into custody Sunday night after her elderly parents said they were held hostage.

According to police, the couple was held hostage for at least a couple of days.

The woman's parents were able to get away from the home on East Sunrise Avenue and went to the Coral Gables police department about 6 p.m. with lacerations and burn marks, said Coral Gables spokesman Dean Wellinghoff.

Officers went to the home and asked the daughter to come out, but when she did not, a SWAT team was sent in to take her into custody.

Police believe the woman has a mental condition, and said it might have played a role in the incident.

The parents were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries Sunday night at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

Police are still investigating a possible motive.

The names of the daughter and her parents were not immediately released.
