Comm. Libbin Pulls Out Of Mayoral Race

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – There's now one less name in the running for Miami Beach mayor.

Wednesday evening Miami Beach Commissioner Jerry Libbin announced that he was pulling out of the race.

"I am immediately suspending my campaign for Miami Beach Mayor and withdrawing from the race. I do so with a heavy heart, and after extensive talks with my family and closest supporters," Libbin wrote in a statement. "As my campaign was about to enter a new, more intense phase in the coming weeks, I realized I would be stretched too thin."

Libbin, who is President and CEO of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, added that he plans to serve out his current term as commissioner through the election.

Last month, comedian Steve Berke announced that he would be entering the race. Berke lost to Mayor Matti Herrera in 2011.

In February, Miami Beach Commissioner Michael Gongora announced that he would also be in the running for the mayor's job this November.
