'Turbo' Hits Theaters At Full Speed

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Zip, zap, zoom! Want to know what happens when a small snail with big dreams gets the power of super speed? Well Turbo is on his way to South Florida theaters.

From the makers of Madagascar, 'Turbo' is a  high velocity 3D animated movie with an all-star cast.

Ryan Reynolds stars as Turbo the snail who lives his lifestyle at a slow pace but wishes to win the Indy 500 race.

"I just fell in love with the story" said Ryan Reynolds. "It was a classic underdog story; it felt like 'Rocky' to me, but it just happened to be a snail."

The movie follows the adventures of Turbo and his cautious brother, Chet, when they end up in the hands of two human brothers who own Dos Bros Tacos.

Actors Michael Pena and Luis Guzman play brothers Angelo and Tito. While making the movie, the two said they never worked together during the recording process.

"He [Guzman] actually recorded in LA. I recorded in NY," said Pena. "We met for the first time last week when we started doing this stuff. I was like 'Dos Bros Tacos, hello!'"

Pena was honored to be a part of the fast-paced movie.  He said it didn't take much to convince him hop on board.

"I didn't read the script.  I was pitched the movie and I said 'whose doing it?' They said 'DreamWorks' and I said 'I'm in'," said Pena.

Pena and Guzman said they also liked how their characters look in the movie.

"Oh, I love how I look on camera," Guzman joked. "I think it's crazy cool with the short legs and everything."

"It's a new look," said Pena.

Both Pena and Guzman said being in a comedy movie was a refreshing change—something rare for both of their careers.

"It's still acting. You know at the end of the day, it's trying to tell a story except you don't swear," said Pena. "Well, I did swear but then they told me not to."

"For me it provides me with a whole new fan base and that's pretty cool," said Guzman.

For families looking for a cool, new adventure film, Turbo is in theaters now.
