Human Skull Found Near Margate Golf Course

MARGATE (CBS4) – A human skull was found Monday in a canal along the Oriole Executive Golf Course in Margate.

Divers from Sullivan Electric and Pump were performing maintenance work on an irrigation line near the ninth of the course when they spotted the skull according to police.

According to detectives, it was located inside of a clay pot along with various trinkets about 10 to 15 feet under the water.

Detectives with the Margate Police Department will treat the case as a homicide investigation for now, but said it is possible the skull was acquired for religious ritualistic purposes.

Police divers will search the area for any additional remains and evidence.

The skull is now in the possession of the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office for investigation.

As of Monday afternoon, the race, sex and age of the human skull are not known.
