Man Seriously Burned In Lauderhill Fireworks Mishap

LAUDERHILL (CBS4) – A man is recovering, Friday, after rescue officials said an attempt to set-off fireworks went horribly wrong while celebrating the Fourth of July.

Captain Jerry Gonzalez with Lauderhill Fire Rescue told CBS4 News the the fireworks blew up in his face.

The man was transported to Broward General Medical Center around 8:45 p.m. Thursday night.

Witnesses told rescue officials the man was setting off fireworks that appeared to be highly powered in his front yard in the 8600 block of Northwest 45th Court when the accident took place.

The man's identity was not released, but Captain Gonzalez said he has second and third-degree burns to his face and he has hearing loss.
