Opa-locka Man Arrested In Deadly Shooting

MIAMI (CBS4) - Detectives  have made an arrest in a shooting that left a man dead on Miami-Dade street four months ago.

Efram Zimbalist Fitzpatrick, 22, is accused of gunning down Demetrius Jones, 23, at NW 63 Street and NW 18 Avenue on March 3rd.

According to the arrest affidavit, Fitzpatrick was riding in a Nissan Maxima that was travelling northbound on 18th Avenue. The car reportedly slowed down when it approached Jones, who was walking southbound on the same street. Police say the driver's side rear window lowered, and Fitzpatrick opened fire with an assault rifle.

The affidavit states that as Jones fell to the pavement, Fitzpatrick and another unidentified male got out of the car and Fitzpatrick again shot Jones. Both of the men allegedly got back in the vehicle and fled the scene.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw that Jones has been shot multiple times in the torso, face, neck, and legs. Fourteen assault rifle casings were also recovered at the scene.

Police say witnesses on the scene positively identified Fitzpatrick as the shooter when presented with a photo lineup.

Fitzpatrick made an appearance in bond court Thursday and was held on no bond.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
