Hope On Wheels Donates $75K To Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Hyundai Hope on Wheels has donated $75,000 to the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center to help fund research to find a cure for childhood cancer.

A handprint ceremony took place Tuesday at Sylvester where Miami-area children affected by cancer dipped hands in paint and placed them upon a white Hyundai Santa Fe Sport to commemorate their brave battles with cancer.

Dr. Yolanda Cosme received the $75,000 grant to fund a pediatric cancer research project aimed at developing novel therapies for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) which is resistant to traditional therapy.

The University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center has received $400,000 from Hope On Wheels since 2010.

In 2013, Hope On Wheels will donate 40 Hyundai Scholar Grants totaling $3 million to institutions across the country.

By the end of the year, Hope On Wheels will have awarded more than $72 million towards childhood cancer research in pursuit of a cure.
