Transformers Ride Opens At Universal Studios

ORLANDO (CBSMiami) — The Autobots and Decepticons battle heated up Thursday in Orlando with the grand opening of the new action packed thrill ride based on the movie "Transformers".

Universal Orlando celebrated the grand opening of its new, 3-D theme park ride based with a red carpet event, which included Bumblebee, Optimus Prime and Mega-Tron.

The red carpet star power also included Steven Spielberg, who is executive producer of the "Transformers" film.

Thursday was the first official day of operation for the ride but guests have been enjoying the attraction for the past few weeks during "technical rehearsals."

The ride is an interactive, "larger than life battle" between the Autobots and Decepticons. It uses flight simulator technology, along with wind, heat and smoke to make the riders feel immersed in the experience.

The new attraction is guarded by a 28-foot-tall figure of Optimus Prime.

Universal built the attraction in less than a year. Nearly identical versions of the ride already have opened at Universal Studios Hollywood in California and Universal Studios Singapore.
