MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Heat fans, at least those who could get their hearts restarted Wednesday morning, are looking for anything that might give the advantage to the Heat in Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals.
It turns out, they have to look no further than the Miami Marlins.
Once again Tuesday night, the Marlins and Heat played on the same day. And as has been the case recently, when the Marlins lost, the Heat won.
It all started at the beginning of June.
The Heat played the Indiana Pacers on June 1st and was blown out 91-77. June 1st saw the Marlins play the New York Mets in Miami and the Marlins destroyed New York 8-1. Then on June 6th, the Heat lost to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, 92-88; and the Marlins didn’t lose, mainly because they had an off date.
Last Tuesday, the Heat was mauled by the Spurs 113-77 in one of the most lopsided losses in NBA history. The same day, the Marlins knocked off the Milwaukee Brewers in the only win in the three-game series against the Brew crew.
Sunday the Marlins laid a beat down of the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-2 and as most of South Florida knows the Heat was beaten in Game 5 of the NBA Finals 114-104 in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score indicated.
Then Tuesday night, the Marlins were on the West Coast and started its game late and after winning on Monday, lost to the San Francisco Giants, 3-2.
All of South Florida and the sports world know how the Heat game turned out.
Another coincidence was all of the Marlins’ wins came inside the confines of Marlins Park; while three of the Heat’s four losses came on the road.
With Game 7 and the NBA Championship on the line on Thursday night at the AmericanAirlines Arena, Heat fans may want to periodically check in on the Marlins game and pull for the San Francisco Giants, at least if they’re superstitious.
