FLPD Release Identities Of 2 Killed In Thurs. Crash

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Fort Lauderdale Police released the identities of two people who were killed in an early Thursday morning crash near the intersection of Broward Boulevard and SW 5th Avenue.

According to police, Mackendy Jules, 30, and Samuel Artez Martindale, 35, were both hit and killed when they were hit inside a parking lot.

Police said around 2 a.m., Alyza Rachel Russell, 22, was driving west on Broward Boulevard when she attempted to make a left turn onto SW 5th Avenue and head south. Russell couldn't complete the turn and drove her Porsche Panamera through the hedge of a nearby parking lot.

Jules and Martindale were sitting with another person in the parking lot and the third person was able to get out of the way, but the other two were not able to escape. One of the men struck died on the scene, the other was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he died.

Neither Russell nor her two passengers were hurt during the crash.

Investigators with the Ft. Lauderdale Police Department said they believe Russell was under the influence of an unknown substance at the time of the crash.

Charges against Russell are pending once the investigation and toxicology reports are completed.

If you have any additional information about the accident, call FLPD traffic homicide investigator Graham at 954-828-5125.
