Coral Gables Kicks Off Restaurant Week

CORAL GABLES (CBS4) – South Florida food lovers will get the opportunity to get a taste of some palette pleasing dishes and it won't put a dent in their wallets either.

Coral Gables Restaurant Week is a mouth-watering restaurant promotion that showcases some of the best cuisines in Miami.  The discounted dining program started June 10th and lasts for three weeks.

Chef Jasper Schneider is the Executive Chef at the all new Sushi Samba in Coral Gables. He juggles exotic dishes from around the world for the lunch crowd at the trendy spot.

"We opened two weeks ago. It's a cross between Peruvian, Brazilian and Japanese cuisine," said Schneider. "So we have a Samba kitchen and we have sushi bar."

Sushi Samba is one of 38 restaurants participating in Coral Gables Restaurant Week.

"This is a kind of 'you win, we win' situation. These are the best of the best offerings," said the organizer of Coral Gables Restaurant Week, Mari Gallet. "Twenty percent off three-course price fixed menus."

Foodies can eat their way through the Gables with carefully crafted three course menus for lunch and dinner, starting at $15 and can run up to $38 per person.

"Always Restaurant Week and I'm from New York. It is nice to get a three course meal at a good price," said Schneider.

Schneider prepared a Mushroom Tobanyaki appetizer, which had wild sautéed Japanese mushrooms in mushroom stock and coconut milk, topped with an organic poached egg.

The main course was the Chef's Special which was an assortment of sushi and a "Musashi Roll," made with a fresh salmon roll and topped with a mango salsa.

For dessert, Peach Tiradito with a coconut-lime sorbet, served with white peaches and peppers.

Coral Gables Restaurant Week runs from June 10-June 30.
