MIAMI (CBS4) – Miami-Dade residents who do their civic duty won’t have to pay for parking.

On Tuesday the county commission passed a resolution which allows residents on jury duty to park for free at any county owned or operated lot. They will also be able to park for free at Metrorail and bus stations.

The resolution was sponsored by commissioners Lynda Bell and Sally Heyman.

Currently, those serving jury duty have to pay $5 a day. The new rule goes into effect on October 1st.
