MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Three people were injured in a shooting at a Downtown Miami condominium.
The shooting happened Sunday morning at the 60-story Opera Tower at 1750 N Bayshore Drive, according to Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes.
Reyes said officers found two of the wounded in the building’s lobby. Investigators said there were numerous crime scenes within the building.
“We don’t know exactly where it all started because we have five different crime scenes,” said Reyes.
Christian Castro said he was working his convenience story in the lobby when he saw two of the people. He said he didn’t hear the gunshots, but did recognize one of the men as a regular customer.
“I know the guys, I aways see the guys in the building,” said Castro.
The third injured person was located on the 30th floor.
“Once officers were already inside this building we received a third call that another person was knocking on a door asking for help that person was also shot as a result of this case,” said Reyes.
Residents of the building saw the aftermath.
“I was going down, the elevator doors opened and there was blood everywhere,” said Grant Stern. “Lots of police and police tape.”
“I saw blood in the elevator, there were droplets of blood all over the floor,” said Yasmin Mattox.
Reyes said one person was shot in the abdomen, the second in the hand and the third person was shot in the back. Two of the injured were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The third person was taken directly to Jackson Memorial.
Opera Tower boasts beautiful and luxury living. Some units have sold for more than half a million dollars. Residents said crime, when they hear of it, is generally of the non-violent variety.
“Just the usual stuff stolen bicycle or motorcycle or whatever,” said Stern.
Police have not released the names of the injured or said what may have led to the shooting.
