Six Year Old Oakland Park Girl Shot By Sibling

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – A six year old girl was shot inside her Oakland Park home Saturday night by her 13-year-old brother, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The little girl's name has not been released, but deputies said she was transported to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition.

Neighbors said they heard a gunshot and then eventually saw the little girl being brought out by paramedics.

"They didn't use a stretcher," said Justin Latourrette. "They carried her straight out in their arms and you could tell she had a hole in her chest above her heart. She had her eyes open, you could tell she was in shock."

BSO deputies said the two siblings were home alone when the shooting happened around 7 p.m.

"For the parents out there with a loaded gun, you know you've got to take control over it and put it in a better spot where your kids are not available to it. You know? It's not right," said Latourrette.

"They just moved in like two weeks ago, so maybe they didn't put the gun away properly because they just moved in," Tommy Milano said.

The investigation is ongoing, but deputies believe the shooting was an accident.

They said it is too soon to know whether the children's parents will face any charges.
