Driver Identified in Deadly Daycare Van Crash

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – Several children were hurt and one adult was killed in a horrific traffic accident in Pompano Beach Friday afternoon.

Keturah Janel Kelly, 24, was allegedly driving at a fast speed when she rear-ended the daycare van.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the accident took place at Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 9th Street in Pompano Beach around 2:41 p.m.

"I saw the van turning and then I see the car going sixty miles an hour and she went into the van," said witness Ronnie Henderson.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue officials said the 24-year-old driver of the car was killed on the scene.

"We heard a crash and then we ran and saw the driver of the van unbuckling the kids from the seatbelts and handing them over to people outside," said another witness Gregory Davis.

Six children in the van received minor injuries and were transported to area hospitals. Three kids were taken to Broward Health North and three others were taken to Broward Health.

The kids were between three to eight years of age and were in a van from the Kidsville Early Learning Center located at 1003 E. Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach.

The cause of the crash is still under the investigation.
