Severely Abused Dog Goes Home With New Family

MIAMI (CBS4) - He does not have one bad bone in his body.  He is a sweet, loving dog with a heartbreaking story.

Last Friday Vinny, a cream colored pooch was found near NE 10 Ave and 90 St. dying on the side of the road.

"He kind of fell over. There was a woman yelling she was very upset in Spanish and my Spanish is not very good.  I was trying to figure out what happened his eyes were rolling back and his head to it was very sad," said Natalie Ramo.

Vinny was badly beaten and possibly even stabbed.  Ramo says she didn't think twice. She carried Vinny into her car and rushed him to Biscayne Animal Hospital.

"He came to us pretty much lifeless couldn't walk, couldn't breathe his chest was full of blood, he had broken ribs and lacerations to his whole body"  said Dr. Johanna Bustter.

Unfortunately VInny's story is not an isolated case. It is something Michelle Thomas with the Miami Pet Assistance Coalition sees too often in the streets of Miami.

"We see several dogs in the streets many of them are sick with mange, malnourished, hit by cars and injured sometimes unfortunately they are dead in the street it is a constant problem," said Michelle Thomas.

Vinny's heartbreaking story does have a happy ending, after seven days at Biscayne Animal Hospital ,he now has a new "leash" on life.  On Wednesday, he went home with a new family that was found by the MPAC, they have also helped with Vinny's hospital bills.

If you would like to help, you can visit Miami Pet Assistance Coalition on their Facebook page.  There you will find pictures of other stray dogs looking for a loving home.
