Mother Of Grove Shooting Victim Devastated By Loss

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The mother of a man who was shot to death in front a Coconut Grove home early Saturday is devastated by her loss and wonders why it happened.

"My neighbor called and said he is down in front of your door," said Bellsennes Janes.

A mother in tears as she showed CBS4's Gaby Fleischman the spot where her eldest son took his last breath. Fred Gibson, 20, was gunned down in front of the family home on Charles Street.

"He took my life. You took a part of me that I can't replace," said Janes.

Bullet holes remain in homes where shots were sprayed. Gibson died in front of his home. His best friend Blake West was shot in the ankle. Janes does not believe the shooter targeted her son.

"This was not meant for my son. He stuck close to home, to me. He loved his family. He was talking about a future for himself," said Janes.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the gunman. They have not released a motive for the shooting.
